Phototherapy (Biliblanket)

Phototherapy (Biliblanket)

A Biliblanket also known as a phototherapy blanket, is a portable phototherapy device for the treatment of neonatal jaundice (hyperbilirubinemia) a common condition in infants.

Description

Phototherapy blanket

The Phototherapy blanket is an alternative to standard heliotherapy. This requires the infant to lie under fluorescent bulbs in a hospital incubator. The infant wears eye patches to prevent possible damage from the light rays. The light under the BiliBlanket therapy exposes Infants’ eyes. While unerdgoing treatment the process allows for the infant to be clothed. More even lighting is provided by the Biliblanket.

Hyperbilirubinemia, refers to an increase in the amount of bilirubin in the blood. With the development of flexible fluorescent panels, it’s now possible to wrap the infant in the panel during treatment. This can be done without eye protection. Of course the best part is that this allows the parent to hold the child during part of all of the therapy.
